2010-09-03 Women's Avalanche: Season Preview
The College of the Rockies Women's Avalanche volleyball team is looking to improve on a 2-14 season in the BCCAA last year. Lisa Ramsay coached the East Kootenay Volleyball Club team over the summer and recruited seven players for the upcoming season, three of which are from Alberta. "I was able to pick up a middle from Red Deer, Becca Christensen and two Libero's - Paige Frederickson and Cassie Remple" says Ramsay. Christensen and Frederickson played together on a club team based in Sylvan Lake, Alberta while Remple is a Canmore product. Ramsay's recruiting continued in Saskatoon, where she found leftside, Rylee Newlove. Newlove played high school volleyball with returning middle, Kieran Britton. "We have two girls from Prince George, Michelle Werbecky (setter) and Rebecca Zemlak (middle). They played together which is always nice" says Ramsay. Leftside, Marlee Kannigan is a tranfer from Selkirk College and leftside/rightside, Justine Rundberg, a local, was also recruited in the off-season. Avalanche tryouts start next Wednesday at the College Gym. | ||
