2010-09-04 National Truck Week begins tomorrow
(By the Broadcast Center News Team) Tomorrow marks the start of National Trucking Week. In BC and the territories, for hire companies employ well over 30 thousand people, and that doesn't include privat companies that transport their own goods. President of the BC Trucking Association, Paul Landry, says the industry is working to attract even more employees. "We're doing a number of things starting with establishing a good training program that will train truck drivers for a career rather than just for getting a license," says Landry. "We a pilot project that is starting next week, for what I call a gold standard in terms of training. That training program is going to take place in Castlegar." Landry says the industry would like to see more young people and more women take interest in driving transport trucks. | ||
