The fire in the Hell Roaring Creek area near St. Mary's Lake is now out.

Information Officer Erin Catherall with the Southeast Fire Center says Tuesday's lightning storm helped deal with the blaze.

"On Tuesday, the Cranbrook region was hit hard with lots of rain, which was very good for the fire burning on the ridge," Catherall says. "The fire is now 100 percent contained and is being patrolled by crews

Catherall says the fire burnt about 9.4 hectares of land in the St. Mary's Lake area. 23 fire fighters were on scene, including 3 helicopters, members of the Valhalla crew and members of the repel crew.

A small spotfire is also happening at the Rock Ridge area near Elko. Fire crews are already responding to the lightning-caused blaze.

If you spot smoke or a wildfire in progress, be sure to call the fire center at 1-800-663-5555 or *5555.
